INTRODUCTIONS

OUTPLAY GAMES presents SWITCH Secrets Of The Temple.

"WELCOME TO OUR STORY, HINTS AND TIPS SECTION. When this game was first put on paper during its early concept stage, it already had a story. The story was very important  as it gives a soul to the board game. Every character or monster in the game was created with his or her own individual story to tell. Stories of hopes and betrayals set during the epic  period of the Sengoku Jidai."

  OBJECTIVE OF THE GAME

"In Switch Secrets Of the Temple, you control a Character equipped with different skills, weapons and armors. Over the course of the game you may collect various Cards to assist you. The Objective of the Game is to find the Magical Chime to obtain the Treasure Chest and reveal the location of the Escape Portal. Get to the Escape Portal to win. Along the way, you will be attacked by monsters and, very likely, by your friends.

1. You control a Character and use Power and Item Cards to provide your Character with skills, weapons and armors.

2. Power Cards are distributed at the beginning of the game while Item Cards can be collected on the Board.

3. You will receive Wish Cards randomly from time to time. It gives a one time use of an item or a special effect to help you in your battle. Hidden amongst the Wish Cards is the Magical Chime.

4. When the Magical Chime is revealed, see the Playmat for instructions. At the end of his Movement Stage, the Player who drew the Magical Chime will gain possession of the Treasure Chest and an Escape Portal will appear in one of the Secret Chambers. The goal of the game is for that Player to get to that Secret Chamber.

5. When you have successfully entered an Escape Portal, a surprise awaits you! Roll a die, see the consequences of the roll on the Playmat (FINAL CHALLENGE) - to decide whether you escape without fighting or if you have to defeat the Gatekeeper in a final battle to escape.

6. Throughout the game, you can fight solo, or team up with other Players against monsters and the Gatekeeper. However, when you retrieve the Treasure Chest, you can be attacked by other Players too.

7. The Game ends when:-

a) A Player escapes with the Treasure Chest; or b) Rooms 1 to 6 have been removed in the Game by Earthquakes (a special condition in the Unleashed Card); or c) One Player is left standing and is declared the winner of the Game.

8. Through out the game, look out for the Eye Cards in the Secret Chambers, Find the Eye Card that matches the color of your Start Position. If there is no match, return it face down without revealing it to anyone. If you find a match, retrieve it and you can now use your Legendary Weapon Power Card at anytime, like any other Power Card without the need to discard the Eye Card. While retrieving it is optional, it is advisable to find your Eye Card to help you defeat the Gatekeeper in the Final Challenge.

Sounds simple? but be forewarned of the many obstacles and surprises from drawing of Monster Cards, Event Cards and Unleashed Cards."

  THE STORY.... SO FAR

Chapter 25 of Exodus, Old Testament
When Moses was instructed by God to build the Ark of the covenant to contain the stone tablets of the Ten Commandments, he was to have created an artifact of immense power. The power of the Ark was so devastating that it massacred armies and destroy cities, the modern day equivalent of a weapon of mass destruction

Chapter 28 of Exodus. Old Testament
The Breastplate of Judgment, encrusted with 12 precious stones of the 12 tribes, was worn by the priests of Levites. The Breastplate of Judgment, a sacred vestment impervious to the destructive force of the Ark, protected the Levites as they performed their duty of protecting the holy artifact.

957BCE
Temple of Solomon was built by King Solomon to house the Ark of the Covenant and to serve the people.

586BCE
Following the invasion of Jerusalem by the Babylonians led by Nebuchadnezzar, the temple was looted and destroyed but the Ark of the Covenant nor the breastplate had ever been found. Legends have it that the Ark was ferried away for safekeeping, while rumors and stories handed down from generations speak of clandestine journey in which the breastplate was brought to the Far East via the Silk route through the centuries across the Middle Kingdom and eventually, to the Isle of Japon.

1543
Over the centuries, foreign powers in their quest for land, resources and riches would find their way to the shores of Japan, a newly discovered land of strange culture and language. The Portuguese were the first to make inroads with the Jesuits and traders. The Portuguese merchant, Fernao Mendes Pinto landed in Tanegashima, an island south of Kyushu. He would introduce to the Japanese the arquebus, a firearm that spits hot metal ball that burns through the skin of man, changing the landscape of war and peace. At this very time, the descendants of the Levites brought with them, the secret blueprints to help build a hiding place to protect the Breastplate of Judgment.

1585
Toyotomi Hideyoshi in his determined quest to crush the Ikko Ikki(an organized group of peasants, farmers, priests and monks that formed into a fanatical army that rose against the Samurais in the 15 century) attacked warrior monks at the Negoroji Temple and set fire to their complex and annihilated the residence.

1596
Year 5 Bunroku just before the Great Fushimi quake that devastated Kyoto and before the beginning of Keicho (27 Oct 1596)- Japan is still in a state of warring factions. Toyotomi Hideyoshi, now the second of the great unifiers of Japan has more or less successfully unified the country with most of the warlords pledging allegiance to him or be duly crushed by his armies. During this time occurs two small incident that would eventually turn into a diplomatic crisis - a convoy of Franciscan missionaries and 19 converts were crucified in Nagasaki under the orders of Hideyoshi and at the same time a party, a Jesuit Priest and his escorts were ambushed and massacred by a mysterious group. Shrouded in secrecy, no one knew of their precious cargo nor the vital messages they carried. What followed was but a rumor that began circulating among the warlords that a link to a secret weapon that can destroy a whole army or a city had bee hidden somewhere in Arima-cho. Anxiously the warlords, the Europeans and anyone that had an interest in it began sending their best to find it. Henceforth, began the race for the possession of the most fearsome weapon the world had ever seen.

  HINTS & TIPS

Diego M. de Vega aka “The Black Angel”

Diego is an officer of the Spanish Armada with the rank of a captain. He was hand chosen personally for a secret mission by His Majesty and sent to the Japan Isle from the Spanish Fleet in Phillipines. Diego is good with both his hands and wields a pair of twin mini arquebus. He wears a heavy armor plate hence his ability to take hits and survives. He is also known as ‘The Black Angel of the Spanish Fleet’ from the color of his armor and his bravery in battle.

Diego is a special character in the game as he has the ability to have an additional Active Power Card Slot when he is equipped with the Armorplate. So he has 3 Active Power Cards Slot compared to the usual 2. When he is defeated he still has the 50% chance of not losing a Life due to wearing the Armorplate (if you roll an Even). He may be slow in moving but he is able to carry additional firepower by having an extra weapon.
